Hollywoodland’s Historic Granite Walls

The Court of Appeal has reversed a lower court ruling that upheld the City’s approval of a homeowner putting a private fence on a designated Los Angeles cultural monument known as Hollywoodland’s Historic Granite Walls and Staircases.  Hollywood Heritage and a local organization named the Committee to Save the Hollywoodland Specific Plan challenged the City of Los Angeles’ approval of the fence on a portion of the historic granite walls.

Arroyo Seco Listed in National Register

Pasadena Heritage has nominated the Arroyo Seco to the National Register of Historic Places.  Two years of work have gone into this nomination, which will be reviewed by the State Historical Resources Commission on April 23, 2008.  If approved, the Commission will send the nomination on to the Keeper of the National Register of Historic Places in Washington, DC.

Pasadena Landmarks Glenarm Steam Plant

The Glenarm Steam Plant in Pasadena has been designated a Historic Monument by the city.  Nominated by Pasadena Heritage in 2007 during Pasadena Water & Power's 100th anniversary, the designation was approved by the City Council on February 4, 2008.

West Hollywood's Heritage Tree Program

West Hollywood has established a Heritage Tree Program aimed at protecting and raising awareness of Heritage Trees in the area.  The trees or shrubs can be located on public or private property and are not intended to become a factor in preventing development on any properties.

Agreement Reached to Rebuild Johnie's Broiler

An agreement to rebuild Johnie's Broiler has been reached with Bob's Big Boy franchise owner Jim Louder.  Along with rebuilding the illegally demolished 1958 diner, Louder plans to revive carhop service as well.  In celebration of the new agreement and Johnie's 50th anniversary, Friends of Johnie's and the Coalition to Rebuild the Broiler are holding a classic car cruise and meet and greet with Jim  on Saturday, April 19.  Cruisers are to meet at Johnie's at 7447 E. Firestone Blvd in Downy at noon to meet Jim and maybe even the Big Boy himself at 1 pm.  The plan is to circle Johnie's and then adjourn to the Nordic Fox restaurant at 10924 Paramount Blvd in Downey and stay until 6 pm.
