Los Angeles Citywide Adaptive Reuse Ordinance PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 12 January 2003
Its official! The City of Los Angeles' new Citywide Adaptive Reuse Ordinance became effective on December 1, 2003.  This ordinance encourages developers to adaptively reuse existing building stock (including historic structures!) by providing access to numerous financial and zoning incentives.  The City defines an "adaptive reuse project" as the conversion of an eligible building to one or any combination of the following new uses: dwelling units or apartments; guest rooms in hotels or motels; or live/work units.  Be sure to visit the City of Los Angeles' website for more information on this ordinance, the City's adaptive reuse program, and the available incentives.  The Los Angeles Conservancy has also produced a guide to financial incentives for historic resources in PDF format, which may be viewed here.
