Santa Monica gets Preserve America Grant |

In April, the Deputy Secretary of the Interior announced the latest round of Preserve America Grant recipients. Included in this list is the Santa Monica Beach Cultural Mapping Project, sponsored by the City of Santa Monica. 43 Preserve America grants were awarded in 25 states totaling $2.9 million. |

A major component of vinyl products, PVC has long been known to produce dioxins, heavy metals, toxic fumes and other hazardous by-products over time. It is yet another reason why people should seriously consider retaining and rehabilitating original features of their properties in lieu of replacement with modern materials. |

John Lautner's Harpel House Restored |

The home designed by John Lautner for 1950s radio announcer Willis Harpel has been restored to its original design by a new owner, Mark Haddawy. Purchased by Mr. Haddawy in 2006, the Harpel house had been modified so radically by previous owners that many in the architectural community no longer considered it a Lautner design. |

Patriotic Hall to be Renovated |

The 82 year-old Patriotic Hall in downtown Los Angeles is getting closer to renovation and reopening. Closed since 2006, the $48 million rehabilitation is targeting the building's aging environmental, electrical, plumbing, telecommunications and safety systems. |
