History Educator's Manual

The History Channel's Save Our History Program has revised its educator's manual, a curriculum guide with activities and resources to supplement the teaching of national and local American history. The manual is for teachers and youth group leaders reaching students in grades 2-12. A new section refers educators to National Park Service resources.

The free Save Our History Educational Manual contains unique classroom activities for elementary, middle, and high school levels that will help students gain an appreciation of local heritage. These lessons and activities include oral history and research projects designed to develop the student's knowledge of local and national history, and contains all the tools needed to incorporate local history resources into American History and social studies lessons, or to introduce students to the concepts of historic preservation. The manual was written in collaboration with the National Council for the Social Studies and is easy to implement in any classroom.

The entire Save Our History Educator's Manual is available online, or you can download select the sections that are the most relevant to you. A published hardcopy version of the manual is available if you register.
