Property Activity Report
The Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety has introduced a new online resource called the Property Activity Report. According to the city, the purpose of this internet-based tool is "to allow easy access and visual display of general information from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Plan Check and Inspection System (PCIS) and the Code Enforcement Information System (CEIS)." Put in simpler terms, the database provides information about recently issued building permits and other administerial actions by the Department of Building & Safety for properties in the City of Los Angeles.
PCIS is a database of plan check, permit, and new construction inspection information going back to late 1996. CEIS is a database of code enforcement information beginning in mid 2002. All of this information is now available via an online search.

The database can be searched by street address. Observe the following rules for the best results:
-
To initiate a search by address, you must enter a "Street Number" value and a "Street Name" value. The "Street Name" is the name of the street and does not include the street suffix such as Ave, Blvd, Pl, St, etc.
If you are uncertain about the spelling of the street name, or how the street name may have been entered in PCIS or CEIS, enter only the portion of the street name that you are sure of and use a wildcard character (the percentage symbol "%" - without the quotes) to substitute for the rest of the street name. You may enter less than 3 characters and/or numbers for street names that are less than 3 bytes in length, but you must enter a minimum of 3 characters and/or numbers before initiating a search that contains the wildcard character.
Numbered streets contain the ordinal number abbreviation (i.e. st, nd, rd, th) as part of the street name such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. and there is no space between the number and the ordinal number abbreviation.
