Zucky's Deli
A Modcomer reports that the long-closed, former Zucky's Delicatessen Coffee Shop on Wilshire and 4th in Santa Monica is soon facing a makeover.
A hearing notice has been posted on the property, indicating plans for a facade remodel and landscaping. No date for the hearing was provided. However, interested parties may contact the City of Santa Monica Planning Division at (310) 458-8341 for more information.
Zucky's Deli (pronounced zoo’-keys) is well known as a long time fixture of Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica, dating back to the era of the drive-in's and coffee shops. Its now said to be one of only 2 Googie coffee shops left on Wilshire Boulevard - the other being Johnies.
The delicatesson was run by Zucky and Hy Altman, founders of the SOVA food pantries, and frequented by such celebrities as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger - who would meet there for breakfast every morning before continuing on to the gym, back in the day.
